So ... It's official ... I am a freelance consultant now!
My morning commute to work is about 3 to 4 feet (I have yet to take accurate measurements!), from my bed straight to my desk!
A little bit about what I do and who I am doing it for:
I2X:
I2X is an Internet Application Service Provider. I am their main developer. I pretty much do everything that is related to programming.
- New developments mainly in asp.net C# with MsSql2005. I am also developing a few apps in php and mysql. Anything ranging from video apps to simple shopping carts. Lots of diversity and fun!
- Maintaining legacy apps in classic asp. Even though not as much fun as the new dev, it is still challenging at time and exercise a wide range of skills from systems engineering, dba and programming.
- Code assessment and consulting. This is the part where I am asked to provide expert opinion and best practices and tell the customer they should not have used offshore dev teams :-)
- Infrastructure and Processes. I am in the process of revamping the whole dev process and setting up the infrastructure, source control, document trail ... I am a mini director of engineering if you will.
NCCOM:
This is a telecom company that uses Asterisk and Linux platform to create powerful telephony apps.
I am pretty much in learning mode at the moment. Getting back into Linux with Ubuntu and learning everything there is to know about asterisk ... Lots of work ... it feels like going back to school. I have used C, PHP, Perl and mysql so far ... I am sure there is more to come!
DataCore:
I have been with DataCore for a loooonnnngggg time!!! Originally, I was their Technical Product Manager and when I "left" I took over the task to built their new online product license generation and online product activation platform.
The application developed in classic asp and mssql allows to generate the correct type of product license based on the customer's online purchase. Then when the product is installed, it allows for its activation and maintains a database to avoid software piracy.
Along with this application comes a set of complex CMS allowing DataCore's personel to manage product orders and associated licenses.
Of course, as a freelance consultant, I welcome any additional work! Feel free to contact me ...
